We would not dispute the Texas right to secede, we would dispute that it is the only state with such a right. (there were 13 original Colonies that were independent nation States according to the Treaty of Paris and all the remaining state joined of their own free will). There are many justifications for the right of secession in each state.

Not even Texas has such a right; the 1848 treaty contains no such provision. It's an urban legend.
